Bioluminescence Tour

Experience the magic of Bioluminescence!

Swim in the glowing waters of the Bio Bay…

bio angelWhile you’re on a kayak tour, one of the most magical experiences you can have is seeing the glow of Bioluminescence. In a marine environment, many living organisms have the capability to emit light for survival and reproduction.

There are 3 varieties of bioluminescent creatures that live nearshore in Caribbean waters, and are commonly seen. In the right conditions, locals and tourists alike can be graced with the chance to see the water light up, producing a unique and memorable visual experience.

The skilled guides at the Sweet Spot know where to find these, ”living lights”. On the north-side of Grand Cayman there is a small protected bay that is one of the best Bio Bays in the world. Millions of glowing microorganisms put on an amazing light show in the dark water, and you can watch your hands, feet and paddles glow beautifully.

Our location in Grand Cayman conducts Bio Bay tours almost every night (conditions allowing) by kayak and boat. Our custom-made bioluminescence tour boat was specifically designed for these tours, letting you get up close and personal with the Bioluminescence while riding in comfort, perfect for enjoyment with the family and kids.

For a little more adventure there is also a Kayak Tour using double kayaks and flashlights.

Bioluminescence in Grand Cayman Kayaking Tour

Our Bioluminescence Kayak Tour is the best ways to see the world-famous Bio Bay of Grand Cayman. This exciting and amazing tour will get you up-close and personal with millions of glowing organisms. It is a one-of-a-kind experience, and many people’s favorite activity on Grand Cayman.

Bio Boat feetThe Sweet Spot Cayman does 3-stops, including 2 types of bioluminescent creatures.

We leave from Kaibo around sunset. The first stop is Starfish Point to see the setting sun and awakening stars. Next stop is the famous Bio Bay, where we spend most of our time. Our informative guides will tell you all about this amazing sight. Finally we visit a 2nd type of Bioluminescence, it is called the Disco Shrimp, and a totally different type of glowing organism.

We use safe and stable 2-person sit-on-top kayaks as we navigate the near-shore waters between Kaibo and the Bio Bay. The tour is about 3 miles paddling and takes about 2 hours, and can be considered moderate paddling (especially if there is some wind). Tour leaves nightly (conditions allowing) from Kaibo Beach Bar, on Northside of Grand Cayman.

Tour is about 2 hours and cost US$55/person and kids between 4-6 are free (when paddling with 2 adults)

Transportation to Kaibo
We do NOT offer transportation, but we can give recommendations. We are located at Kaibo Beach Bar on the north side of Grand Cayman, about 45 minutes to 1 hour from 7 Mile Beach. Or 20 minutes from Morritt’s and The Wyndham Reef Resort.

Many people rent a car and enjoy visiting the Northern and Eastern Districts, having dinner or late lunch at Kaibo before the tour.

The Water Ferry from Camana Bay is a good option since it is a 20 minute boat ride from 7-Mile Beach to Kaibo.  On Tuesdays and Friday there are a scheduled trips to Kaibo that coordinate with our 7pm tour times. Cost is CI$20/person round trip. For more info click on this link. On other nights a custom water taxi can be arranged.

Shuttle buses are an option and we can recommend a couple licensed operators that can provide ground transportation. They are best for larger groups as they have a minimum amount needed for the 1-hour drive each way plus waiting while the tour happens.

Bus service is not regular, especially at night, so it is not a good option.

Contact us if you have any questions or need help with transportation.
